Victories

Your voice has made a difference for hungry Americans. Whether we are trying to protect programs like SNAP, CSFP, TEFAP or WIC that help feed the hungry from harmful cuts or policy changes or working to get new investments in anti-hunger programs, Feeding America advocates have been there every step of the way. Here are some of our most recent victories:

Restored cuts made to anti-hunger programs in 2011 House Appropriations Bill

In 2011, the House of Representatives approved an appropriations bill that would have cut TEFAP by $60 million, TEFAP Storage and Distribution Grants by $10 million, and CSFP by $38 million. With your help, we were able to restore these cuts in the Senate version and the final bill passed by both chambers.

Protected SNAP from devastating cuts

Attempts to balance the budget and reduce the deficit have put the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the crosshairs over the past several months. Thanks to advocates like you, attempts to drastically reduce benefits or limit eligibility have been defeated so far.

Passed the Healthy, Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307)

On December 2, 2010, Congress passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (also known as the Child Nutrition Bill). This landmark piece of legislation provided $4.5 billion in new funding over 10 years to improve children’s access to healthy meals. It is the largest investment in federal child nutrition programs since their inception. Feeding America advocates helped push the bill over the finish line by sending letters and making phone calls to their Members of Congress, writing letters to the editor to local newspapers, and helping to recruit new advocates in the fight against hunger.
