Disaster Relief Fund Emptied!
We need 500,000 pounds of food a day to meet the urgent needs of the survivors of Hurricane Ike - and that is just our Houston Food Bank. But our Disaster Relief Fund was emptied almost immediately following these storms!
That means we need immediate help from our generous supporters in order to get emergency food and supplies to the men, women, and children left reeling in the wake of Hurricane Ike.
Every dollar will provide $30 worth of food and supplies. Please give now!
Exploding demand caused by the slumping economy and record-high food and fuel costs has virtually emptied many of our food banks. Your gift is more urgently needed than ever.
UPDATE SEPT 30, 2008
435 truckloads of food and grocery products have been secured for disaster victims.
250,000 people are estimated to be in need of emergency food assistance because of the storms.
10.6 million pounds of food and groceries has been donated or purchased (that’s about 8 million meals)!
$7 million is the estimated need for disaster relief efforts this year. |
